Ontario Wine Spot #10- Hidden Bench

Hidden Bench is the next winery right beside Organized Crime. The owner is, we later found out, also the owner of Upper Canada Cheese. Hidden bench has nothing to do with a seating area that is quite hard to find, but the fact that it is on the Beamsville bench, a land formation responsible for favorable growing conditions. Fielding estate and Organized Crime both share this land as well. The idea behind the winery is to produce 'ultra-premium wines' which I don't think they've done yet. They have, however, made some decent vintages. To start, we engaged in a war of rieslings.

Roman's Block Riesling- older vines
-made with wild yeast, which I appreciate from a terroir-ness point of view.
-High acid, loads of citrus fruits, particularly lime, zest and juice.
-I really think it needs food to fight with the acid, because it's too astringent otherwise

Falseck Riesling- younger, single vineyard vintage
-extremely long finish and a nice mouthfeel
-lower acid than it's competitor, though still hits the mouth
-definitely more drinkable without food, but would still appreciate some nice dishes.

Fume Blanc-
-almost golden-green to look at, smells of fresh cut hay and grass
-herbaceous mouth, with grapefruit and maybe even a hint of green pepper.
