Prince Edward Island

PEI is a much fabled place. Also a green gabled place. It's really a beautiful island, boasting pasture and potatoes, as well as a great business atmosphere and a really clean place to live. Charlottetown is small, but tightly woven, so it provides quite a bit to do. PEI is also obviously well funded, providing it's local businesses and products with a lot of support. Clearly the food culture here is intense, because for an Island this small to be hosting an event as large as the one that drew us here, it's a big deal. Tourism Canada, and Tourism PEI help out loads with most of the major projects on the island. An extra tourism boost comes from the fact that Anne of Green Gables is featured in the Japanese curriculum, so hordes of tourists come to see the setting for the story. There is an entire industry around Anne, starting with her homestead, and ending with chocolate covered potato chips. That's right, chocolate covered potato chips.

Anyways, PEI is a really charming place, and we had an amazing time there, but in keeping with the new format, I'm going to break this down into lots of small posts, specific to their subjects, so this is really just an introduction to the Island. PEI not only hosted the shellfish festival, but also hosted my birthday and a slew of other small stovetrotter related events over the days we were there. Beautiful place.
